Today we handed the keys of the Subaru to raffle winner Diane (right). Diane, who purchased 5 tickets, coincidentally was also the winner of the Dodge truck that we raffled off about 7 years ago. “Wow! You are lucky!” I said when I realized who the winning ticket holder was. Diane responded that she didn’t used to be lucky until she had chemo … she lost her hair but when it grew back there was no gray! She said she also had won a generator at a local fair and donated it to a family in need. The truck, she told us, went to a volunteer fireman and the Subaru is going to be given to a young mother who needs transportation to get to work. This is karma at its best!

Thank you to all who purchased tickets and to Lynn (left) who donated the Subaru and made all this possible!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who made the Hockessin Haunted House a success!! To the Hitchens family – you are awesome! Out did yourselves once again this year! Record attendance & record proceeds! We count on this fundraiser to cover our heating costs for the winter and we are starting off with a full tank! Thanks also to our volunteers and all the wonderful actors – your participation is inspiring! And to CHEESE for making a guest appearance tonight 🙂 Thanks to all and a Happy Halloween!

A huge thanks to Kreutz Creek Vineyards for having us out this holiday weekend! A great time was had by all! We raised some money to go towards Sybil’s much needed dental & our adoptable pups got some great exposure! Could have listened to the music ALL day long and sipped wine …and dogs everywhere!

Thanks to all who helped make our 7th Annual Flea Market a success!

The first-ever Dog Show at Second Nature Farm in Oxford, PA was a hit!  We got so many compliments on what a great time people had!  This show was well organized yet totally laid back at the same time.  Proceeds benefited the Second Nature Farm Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team with a portion being donated to CompAnimals.  Dogs with diversity were celebrated – one minute we watched agility, the next minute pie-eating.  Keep an eye out for another event in Fall 2015.

The first in the Rocky James Foundation series was a success!  The February 26, 2015 event focused on Pet CPR & Basic First Aid.  The next event is being planned for May 2015.

Rocky James was a very special English Bulldog who was adopted from CompAnimals by founder, Kimm Doddato at the age of 5.  Rocky went on to live six more wonderful years and overcame many health ailments through the proactive care of Kimm.  The Rocky James Foundation, established in his memory, will spread awareness as well as assist those who would like to provide critical care for their pets but are unable to financially.

Special thanks to Dr. KimMi Whitehead, VMD, a critical care specialist at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware, and Christy McDowell, LVT, VTS (ECC), specialty nurse.  They demonstrated canine and feline resuscitation, providing hands on practice for attendees.  They also demonstrated how to identify sudden illness or poisoning, how to help a choking pet, how to check rates (pulse, temperature and breathing) and emergency action steps to take until medical care is sought.

Thanks too to Dog Dayz Daycare for hosting the event!

We would like to send out a HUGE thanks to our Hockessin Haunted House host, ARLENE HITCHENS, who outdid herself yet again this year!  For those of you who haven’t been yet, the Hitchens’ house goes through a transformation from brick colonial to haunted mansion starting Labor Day right up to the day of the event.  (They even forfeit their dining room and eat in the garage during the final stages!)  Volunteer actors are recruited – many U of D students and several diehards who return every year – all for a good cause.  We count on this fundraiser to fill our oil tank and keep our critters warm through the winter – this year was the BEST YEAR EVER!  Thanks also to all those who participated and attended – we couldn’t rescue as many without you!
