Pen Pals Wanted
Are you a serious dog lover? Come here to give back to this species that inspires you! We have good dogs in our care that can have a better life with your help. For the quality of life of our shelter dogs (dogs who live in a “pen” at the shelter), we prefer developing Pen Pals rather than occasional volunteers.
Learn tons while giving help. The experience you will gain is like no other. You will be exposed to numerous dogs of diverse breeds, backgrounds, ages, all with individual needs and characteristics. We will teach you all we know about dogs and the rescue system, which is a lot!
The benefit we get from our Pen Pals is you learn how we operate, our rules and expectations, and most importantly, individual dogs. We want you to keep coming for at least a year, as we plan to invest in you and would really appreciate you sticking with the program.
A Pen Pal is like a “Big Brother” or “Big Sister”, forming a relationship with an individual dog. We expect our Pen Pals to go through orientation and then come on a regular weekly schedule 1-2 mornings per week. With experience, Pen Pals can take on responsibilities such as attending training classes with the dog, adoption events, marketing videos and visits to various natural and/or social scenes in the area. We have force-free, positive dog trainers who donate time to teach Pen Pals. This is a wonderful opportunity for a dog lover to learn from local experts while helping prepare and match a homeless dog with a forever home.
Sponsors Wanted
Rarely do adoption fees cover the cost of caring for the animals in our care. We have always gone the extra distance to provide food and medical care for animals in need, including but not limited to nutritional supplements, food and/or medicine for special conditions, veterinary care including surgeries. See a dog, cat or critter that “calls” to you? Please become their sponsor! Simply fill out a volunteer application form and specify the pet name on the application. Be sure to consider the special needs pets listed with a heart next to their name.
Daily cleanup
On-site volunteer opportunities exist at the shelter on weekday (M-F) mornings, most Saturdays 10-4 and Sundays 10-12. For on-site volunteer opportunities, we are looking for adults (18 years and older) who can commit to at least one day per week for a year. Common tasks include cleaning the cat room and walking dogs. Adult volunteers, once oriented, can bring people under 18 to assist under their adult supervision.
Fundraisers
The sky is the limit with regards to fundraising opportunities. We need the help to cover rent, utilities, vet bills and keep the whole organization running. We do best when someone brings a well thought-out plan that doesn’t take too much time away from our core group running daily operations. We have enjoyed a vast array of creative contributions, and hope for continued support. Please reach out with your plan to contribute!
